Private jet charter to Berlin
Berlin has a chequered history and is much more than just the fall of the Berlin Wall. Traces of its past can be seen in the magnificent architecture around the capital but the city has moved on and is fast becoming one of the most stimulating creative and cultural centres in Europe.
Berlin is certainly a multi-faceted destination and has something for everyone. For avid sightseers, no trip to Berlin is complete without a visit to the Berlin Television Tower with its stunning views, the famous Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag Parliament building. Craving more architecture? Then make your way to the Gendarmenmarkt, one of the most stunning squares in the city, where three of the most impressive examples of architecture in Berlin are to be found; the Concert House designed by Schinkel, the Deutscher Dom and the Französischer Dom. The Berliner Dom and the Unesco-protected Museum Island should also appear on a keen sightseer's itinerary.
Berlin has around 170 museums and to get around them all would take quite a while. You could start your journey on Museum Island which is home to five museums presenting a panorama of art and history, from ancient cultures to nineteenth-century painting. European paintings from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century can be viewed in the Gemäldegalerie and for a collection of cutting-edge modern and contemporary art, the Hamburger Bahnhof museum is the place to be. If you would like to know more about Germany's and Berlin's chequered history then the GDR Museum, the German Historical Museum, the Märkisches Museum, the Ephraim-Palais or the Jewish Museum will be able to help satisfy your curiosity. The German Museum of Technology is home to many unusual exhibits and don't miss the interactive Currywurst Museum, dedicated to the city's iconic snack.
Berlin is also perfect for a luxury break, with distinguished five-star hotels such as the Hotel Adlon Kempinski, the Grand Hyatt Berlin or the Titanic Gendarmenmarkt Berlin, all offering superior accommodation and an onsite spa within a mile of the Brandenburg Gate. If you have a penchant for shopping then head for Berlin's best-known department store, the KaDeWe near the Kurfürstendamm, with six floors of premium goods ranging from fashion to accessories to delicacies. Nearby, all the big labels like Chanel, Burberry and Yves Saint-Laurent have boutiques on the Kurfürstendamm.
Berlin is also home to some fabulous fine dining establishments. For a restaurant with a view try out the Skykitchen, located just outside the city centre. Alternatively, the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer and the Restaurant Bieberbau are renowned for serving excellent cuisine.
Berlin is famed the world over for its diversity of nightlife, never-ending nightclubs and anything-goes attitude. Choose to visit live music clubs such as the sensual Quasimodo club in Charlottenburg or the Yorckschlösschen in Kreuzbergand, known for its swing, soul, jazz and funk parties. The city's punk scene thrives at SO36 or head to Hangar 49, another gem in Berlin's live music crown, for views of the River Spree. For adults only, the twin clubs, Berghain and Panorama Bar, are well-known for providing innovative techno beats and a hedonistic atmosphere, Lab.oratory is a gay club under Berghain with an anything-goes approach and Privatclub in Kreuzberg is cosy with a varied musical playlist.
Catch a blockbuster, classic, silent, retrospective or foreign language film in one of the many cinemas in Berlin. For a unique viewing experience, take a trip to the grandiose Kino International with its panoramic front and a seemingly floating projection hall. If you prefer your drama live, the historic Chameleon Theatre in Berlin-Mitte, with a charming art nouveau façade, puts on variety and musical shows in the cabaret, musical and circus traditions while the Friedrichstadt-Palast delivers outstanding entertainment for international visitors through its globally-themed shows incorporating mesmerising dance and lavish design. Berlin's venues are as diverse as the events they host.
