The airport is well connected by road to the local areas and a shuttle bus service runs to Napier and Hastings. The terminal building has recently been expanded and refurbished; it now features a café, bar, shopping facilities and conference rooms. The airport is due to change its name to Ahuriri Airport Hawke's Bay in October 2017. Hawke’s Bay Airport does not facilitate recreational aviation, however located nearby is the Hastings Aerodrome often used for training and leisure flights.
