Macau International Airport is the international airport for Macau, an autonomous territory on the western side of the Pearl River estuary. The airport was built on reclaimed land opposite Taipa Island. Macau International Airport has a single runway, which is located in the waters, and is connected by two taxi ways which stretch across the water from the terminal apron to the runway. Despite the runway narrow appearance, Macau International Airport can handle aircraft up to the size of a Boeing 747 or Antonov 124. The airport has a small terminal which contains a number of shops and places to eat. As with Hong Kong, Macau International Airport has its own immigration policy which is separate from that of mainland china. Ground transportation is available in the form of regular bus services and light rail services. Car rentals and private taxis are also available from the airport.
