Earlier this year Air Charter Service’s commercial jets team arranged an ad-hoc charter flight that covered 8,448 miles – more than a third of the circumference of the earth.
The charter was for a sports team following a tournament and was between Doha in Qatar and Monterrey in Mexico in January. The flight time on board the A350-900 was an impressive 16 hours and 23 minutes.
Matthew Purton, ACS’s Group Commercial Jets Director, commented: “The distance would place the charter in the top ten longest scheduled service routes, edging out San Francisco to Singapore by a matter of a few miles. It comfortably beat our previous record, which we only set last April. That was on a B787-9 Dreamliner, which covered 7,140 miles from Cairo in Egypt to Salt Lake City, USA.
“The passengers were served three scheduled meals on board the A350-900, but were also afforded a meal on demand service, as well as plenty of water and other soft drinks.”
The flight took off at 3:29am local Qatari time and arrived at 8:52am local Mexican time on the same day.
