Transporting an engine for a grounded aircraft
We were asked to help get a grounded aircraft back in the air following an engine failure in Peru. A freighter was needed to fly in a 10-tonne replacement engine from the United States, before returning with the faulty engine once they’d been swapped over. Our team sprung into action to find a speedy solution for the heavy and outsize cargo.
Our Solution
Route: New York City > Lima > New York City
Aircraft: Antonov AN-12
Our experts sourced an Antonov AN-12 that could accommodate the cargo in its hold. The client was worried the bulky engine wouldn’t fit through the aircraft’s rear door, however we reassured them it would after checking with the operator and reviewing similar charters.
Permits were needed quickly in order to justify the charter, so we liaised closely with the ground handler in Peru and the client in the United States to fast-track the process and secure them in good time.
The charter went ahead within a week of the client contacting us, with the freight successfully loaded through the AN-12’s rear door as planned.
