Arranging daily deliveries of car parts
A freight forwarder asked for our help when a problem in their supply chain threatened to halt an Italian car manufacturer’s production. They needed parts delivered daily from a supplier in Poland to the car manufacturer’s factory in Turin, keeping the production line running while the issue was resolved. We rushed to provide an efficient door-to-door solution for the urgent request.
Our Solution
Route: Katowice > Turin
Aircraft: Saab 340F
The supplier was producing parts in batches that needed to be drip-fed to the factory at regular intervals each day, with a limited delivery window as Turin Airport shuts overnight.
While transporting the entire consignment on one large aircraft was potentially the most cost-effective solution, we knew any financial savings would be lost if a sudden technical fault grounded the cargo and stalled production.
Instead, we suggested splitting the parts between several smaller aircraft, with departures staggered throughout the day to mitigate risk and evenly distribute deliveries.
Our cargo team sourced several Saab 340Fs from different operators, overseeing a strict schedule with no clashes or delays in order to maximise the value of each flight.
They then worked with ACS Time Critical to truck the cargo to/from both airports and coordinated ground handlers at each destination.
Although the initial request was for a month-long charter programme, altogether we coordinated 330 flights over a 90-day period with up to eight flights a day.
Our meticulously planned solution was a huge success, with no delays to the client’s production line.
The Finer Details
Buying Power: Our strong operator relationships allowed us to block-book several aircraft for rotations and negotiate the best rates for our client.
Flight Representation: An ACS cargo specialist flew from our London office to personally oversee the project, supervising ground handling and mitigating any issues face-to-face.
Industry Contacts: Using our close relationship with representatives at Turin Airport, we successfully negotiated that the airport extend its curfew for our flights, allowing for aircraft to arrive around the clock.
Available 24/7: We maintained constant communication with the client, airline operators, trucking companies and airport handlers to pull off this complex request.
